One of the games for the party include "choosing" their wands. I set up a tower of blocks with an invisible (clear) thread around the bottom one. When they flourish their wands at the blocks I yank the string and the pile crashes. They realize that I am doing something but they can't figure out what.
I painted chop sticks different woodsy colors then labeled them with the type of wood and what magical core it contains (from the books).
